Day 2 | Kolkata 

Your day begins in what is called the Cultural Capital of India. This is city has seen most Nobel laureates in the country and is known for Bengali New Wave cinema, an active literary life and intellectual discussions over endless cups at the famed Coffee house! There are abundant amusements, museums and places to visit in Kolkata.  You can drive around Dalhousie Square discovering beautiful colonial architecture of the GPO, the Writer’s Building, and the Governor’s House and the Fort William. Visit of the Victoria Memorial and the St Paul’s Cathedral.

Day 3 | Kolkata 

You will visit Kumartuli where artisan sculptors fashion idols of Goddesses for a festival only to melt away into the Ganges soon after! Visit the house of Literature Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Take a romantic boat ride on the Ganges close to the new Hooghly Bridge and cherish some unforgettable memories from your North East India tour.

Day 4 | Kolkata-Bagdogra-Darjeeling (Flight, Surface) (Flight, Surface)

Fly out to the Himalayas in Bengal. From Bagdogra, you will begin your picturesque ascent towards Bengal’s erstwhile summer capital, Darjeeling, the very name that conjures up images of tea gardens amidst misty mountains. This road crosses the railroad track several times that also goes up to Darjeeling. This particular railway is part of UNESCO and is a World Heritage Site! When you check in at Darjeeling, make sure you taste the tea. It is really worth it!

Carry warm clothes in your hand baggage as the temperatures will fall considerably when you arrive at Darjeeling. You will discover the wonders of Darjeeling Tourism.

Day 5 | Darjeeling 

We will take you for an early morning excursion to Tiger Hill (alt 2550 metres) from where on a clear day you can perceive Mt Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak on the planet. Then we will take you to the Tibetan monastery of Ghoom. In the afternoon, you will be taken for a joy ride on the World Heritage Site Railroad train! Darjeeling tours don’t end here, there is a lot to experiment and explore. You will not get bored even for a single moment while staying here. 

Day 6 | Darjeeling-Pemayangtse  (Surface)

You will be driven through the beautiful town Richenpong which is of historical significance where the invading British army was stopped. This is the day you enter Buddhist Himalayan province of Sikkim, rich in colourful monasteries and ever smiling content people.

Day 7 | Pemayangtse-Yuksom (Surface)

The Pemayangtse Monastery near Pelling is one of the most famous and oldest monasteries of West Sikkim. Pemayangtse or “Sublime Lotus” belongs to the sect of Red Hats and the monastery has remarkable frescoes decorating its walls.

Visiting places: Pemayangtse Monastery

Hiking to Dubdhi monastery is recommended. Do not forget to wear Hiking shoes and carry water.

Day 8 | Yuksom-Gangtok (Surface)

Yuksom, meaning the meeting place of three monks, is a large village at an altitude of 1800 metres is also a mountaineering hub as it is the starting point for the ascent to Mt Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak on the planet in the Himalayas. By the end of day, you will reach Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.

Day 9 | Gangtok 

Wrapped with clouds and culture, Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim right now. It  was the capital of the earlier dynasty Namgyal and remains the capital of the eastern hill state of Sikkim. It is from here that silk trades took place with Tibet till the closing of the frontiers after the Sino-Indian war in 1962. Excursion to Rumtek monastery. Rumtek is the primary seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage in Sikkim. The Rumtek monastery dating from the 16th century was rebuilt by the 16th Karmapa in 1959 with the help of the Sikkim Royalty and the Indian Government. It is the largest and arguably the most important monastery in Sikkim. Overall North East India tour offers an introduction to the true natural beauty and serenity.

Day 10 | Gangtok-Kalimpong  (Surface)

As you drive to Kalimpong, you will traverse from Sikkim back to West Bengal and to the Lesser Himalayas. Kalimpong is a beautiful low altitude pleasant climate hill station. Amongst the numerous places to visit in Gangtok we will take you to visit the most popular and a must visit for everyone, the Bhutanese Gompa Thongsa.

Day 12 | Kolkata-Bhubaneswar (Flight)

Fly into the capital of Orissa, Bhubaneswar. Despite having an essentially urban structure, Bhubaneswar is an ancient city where the oldest visible remnants go back 2500 years. While you can never fall short of counting the Bhubaneswar Tourist Places, we will take you to visit a tribal museum and cover the best part of the state.

Day 13 | Bhubaneswar 

You will discover Kalinga architecture while you visit the Rajarani Temple with erotic sculptures and the famous living Lingaraja Temple (from the outside). You will also visit the Udayagiri and Khandagiri sites and the rock edicts of Asoka, sites that go back over two millennia!

Day 14 | Bhubaneswar-Puri (Surface)

En route to Puri, you will visit Konarak. Konark is known for its magnificent Sun Temple which is a World Heritage Site. Built nearly 800 years ago, it is in the shape of a gigantic horse-drawn chariot with intricately carved stone wheels, horses, walls and pillars depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, details from the quotidian and fine erotic sculptures which itself falls in some of the important places to visit in North East India.

Day 15 | Puri 

Puri is one among the seven holy cities of India and is also known for its famous “Festival of Chariots”. Foreigners are not allowed to visit the Temple of Jagannath from inside as it is reserved for devotees only. North East India tour offers something more than just the holy Jagannath Temple. Since you are not allowed to get inside the temple, you can understand the architecture one can have a look at the enormous structure from a nearby rooftop that we will arrange for you. And if you are a beach person, surf is always up at Puri. Your hotel is right on the beach! Early in the morning, you can see the fishermen pulling up their catch from the sea. Day 16 | Puri-Kolkata(Flight)

You will fly out to Kolkata from Puri. We will invite you for your last dinner hosted by Maavaalan. At night, you will be escorted to the international airport where you will take your flight back home.
